The devices operate through a USB port or AC adapter and support charging currents up to 1.5A. They support unregulated adapters with input voltage protection over the input voltage range.

The USB input current limit accuracy and start-up sequence of the BQ2407x enables this device to comply with the USB-IF inrush current specification. In addition, input dynamic power management (VIN-DPM) prevents chargers from corrupting misconfigured USB power supplies.

The BQ2407x features Dynamic Power Path Management (DPPM) to independently charge the battery while powering the system.
The DPPM circuit reduces the charge current when the system output drops below the DPPM threshold due to input current limiting; therefore, the charge current can be monitored at all times while powering the system load.
This feature reduces the number of charge/discharge cycles on the battery, enabling normal termination of charging and allowing the system to operate with a defective or incomplete battery pack.
