This expansion board is a dual channel CAN BUS HAT for the Raspberry Pi. It supports the CAN FD protocol and supports transmission rates up to 8 Mbps.
We have released many CAN bus modules and expansion boards, but the Raspberry Pi's 2-channel CAN-BUS (FD) expansion board is undoubtedly excellent: it supports CAN FD! The CAN FD (CAN with Flexible Data Rate) protocol is an upgraded version of the traditional CAN bus that increases the CAN transmission rate from 1 Mbps to 8 Mbps. At the same time, CAN FD improves real-time performance and extends user data frames for increased efficiency.
The Seeed 2-channel CAN-BUS (FD) expansion board for the Raspberry Pi is based on the MCP2517 CAN FD controller and the MCP2557 CAN FD transceiver, which communicates with the Raspberry Pi via a high-speed SPI interface.
You can power this expansion board with the 40-pin plug of the Raspberry Pi, or you can use the 6 - 24V DC screw terminal to power the entire system. To ensure communication stability, we use high-quality Panasonic capacitors and TI power chips, as well as high-quality circuit design to build a stable power management system that provides stable 3.3V and 5V power to all components of the system.
